About Paul VanAntwerp, MA, LPC
Welcome to Elevation Counseling Services. I am Paul VanAntwerp, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Psychotherapist with over 29 years of clinical experience and a deep commitment to facilitating mental and emotional healing. Throughout my career, I have been privileged to help and guide individuals, couples, and families towards achieving their goals and discovering a more balanced and fulfilling life. I hold a strong belief that the relationship between the therapist and client is the catalyst needed for lasting growth and change within the individual. Your desire for change, healing and balance in your life will be the primary focus of our sessions.
You will be encouraged to set treatment goals and identify personal goals that you want to work toward achieving over the short and long term future. My overall clinical approach includes the use of evidence-based methodologies (CBT, DBT, IBT, SFBT) alongside Motivational Interviewing and other therapeutic techniques to effectively address and educate people’s mental, emotional and behavioral issues.
“My practice is built on the foundation of empathy, expertise, and a deep commitment to each person’s unique journey towards wellness.”
My Approach
In my practice, I take a special interest in treating and working with people suffering from Depression, Bipolar Disorder and/or Anxiety conditions which are negatively affecting them across one or more areas of their life. I have extensive training and experience with the treatment of all Mood Disorders and with helping people to overcome the chronic and debilitating nature of all anxiety disorders. I am deeply invested in helping people to harness their inherent strengths and abilities and using them to gain mastery over the challenges you face on any given day. Once starting this process, we will develop a collaborative, solution-focused approach that will not only address your immediate concerns but also foster long-term growth and resilience.
“With a client-centered philosophy, I ensure a non-judgmental, supportive environment where individuals feel valued and understood.”
My approach is tailored to each person, drawing from evidence-based practices and many years of clinical and personal experience, to offer you the most effective interventions. Whether navigating the complexities of mental health, relationship dynamics or life’s inevitable transitions; my goal is to empower you to lead a life that is rich in personal meaning and fulfillment.
Thank you for considering my practice as a companion on your journey to wellness. Together, we can explore the direction and paths needed to take which will promote healing, growth and a brighter future.

TREATMENT MODALITIES
I employ a variety of therapeutic approaches to best meet the needs of my clients, including:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- primarily focused on changing unhelpful or unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. CBT is functionally a combination of 2 therapies: ‘cognitive therapy’ and ‘behavior therapy’. The foundation of both of these techniques is that healthy thoughts lead to healthy feelings and healthy behaviors.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)– primarily focused on understanding and accepting your difficult thoughts and feelings, learning skills to manage these feelings and to become able to make positive changes in your life.
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)– primarily focused on treating grief, interpersonal role disputes, role transitions and interpersonal deficits.
- Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)– reflects the basic belief that problems are best solved by focusing on what is already working and how a client would like their life to be, rather than focusing on the past and the origin of problems.
- Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian Therapy)– grounded in the idea that people are inherently motivated toward achieving positive psychological functioning.
